Our Process

We start by hand-cutting original screen designs. Then each color is lined up by eye and hand printed with a separate screen. This results in each and every Silk Oak garment being unique and slightly different from all the others. We use water soluble, environmentally friendly dyes that form a permanent bond with the fibers of the fabric rather than sitting on the surface of the cloth like regular fabric printing ink. This means you get a garment with a softer feel, more vibrant color, and easier washability. More importantly, the Silk Oak process is safer for us, safer for you, and easier on the environment.

Cutting the film
First, a silk screen is created and we cut the film.

Building the screen
Building the screen: Once cut the design is adhered to the screen.

Beginning printing
Beginning printing: All the items to be printed are spread out flat on tables.

Applying the dye
Applying the design: We use fiber reactive water based dyes rather
than inks so each color needs to be custom mixed.
